You know, Nietzsche said Arrogance on the part of the meritorious is even more offensive to us than the arrogance of those without merit: for merit itself is offensive. It is a quote I reminded Hyoutei students of on a daily basis. Who would have thought it would resurface here?
I believe Neitzsche also said that egotism was the very essence of a noble soul, which seems the more likely quote you've been ramming down your darling children's throats, given the general 'holier than thou' attitude at Hyoutei.

Aside from which, nobility, in today's sense, is defined as "Having or showing qualities of high moral character, such as courage, generosity, or honour." Such distainful comments are neither honourable or moral, so unfortunately, you may have ego, but you do not have nobility. The essence is not the end result.
