My elementary students are learning Do Re Mi. Do a deer a female deer… It was actually quite fun to sing with them. Hehehe

Oh! That would have been perfect! Ok. Making note of that for later just in case. <3

would it help if I asked people on my journal to suggest songs too?

No, that's ok. I took the suggestions that I had this morning and showed them to the teacher this afternoon. Should be good.

I'm trying to remember what songs at the choir concert they sang this year. Because this year they sang only contemporary songs and did dances-- ala glee...

What about Miley Cirus- Climb?

I will try and think of more later...

No need to think of more later. Even though I didn't reply to everyone's comments until now, I did review all the suggestions here and on Facebook and downloaded some YouTube videos to disc and showed them to the teacher this afternoon.

And, actually, The Climb was on my short list of pop songs that she might find interesting. XD Oh, Glee. If they were middle school students I'd have rec'd Don't Stop Believing for sure.

"America" from West Side Story
"Friend Like Me" -- Aladdin (might be a bit hard to learn, though)
"Happy Talk" from South Pacific

You've got a good list of Disney stuff on fb. I like "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" best, it's simple, kid-appropriate and everyone knows it (despite not knowing Song of the South, lawls).

Yeah, most of those have too many words for these kids and it goes too fast. They just implemented early English language learning here. Things like the numbers 1-10 are like 3rd grade level.

Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah ended up high on my list! My #3 rec to the teacher, actually. I even ended up explaining to her what the Song of the South was and why people don't really watch it anymore. But, everybody knows the song.

I still suggest the national anthem or that song we learned a long time ago that names all 50 states in alphabetical order.

And, if all else fails, I'm with Naruto on picking a Disney song. Like... "You've got a friend in me" or something like that.

I showed her 50 Nifty United States and she thought it was super cute. I downloaded a video of some kids singing it off YouTube and put a bunch of 'em on a CD for her.

I put in a few Disney songs. Actually, my #1 recommendation Disney wise ended up being Zip-a-dee-doo-da. It's really short, really simple, and thematically easy to understand. "Today is a good day." That's it. XD

It is a cute song. Just hope the Japanese kids will know what it's about. *didn't think about that till now*

Oooo~ Good one. x3

Meh. Not too worried. I imagine there are plenty of American kids who don't even process the words of the song beyond the the state names themselves, you know?
