My first drabble!

Mar 16, 2009 23:52

Alright, so I was reading some other posts, and came across a drabble by writefiction. I liked the idea, so I came up with a prompt table of my own. I gave it my first shot tonight, so check it out if you want.

Title/Chapter: Pinky Swear (01/01) [drabble]
Author: Renee C.
Characters: Zac/OFC, Isaac
Prompt Number: 056. Pinky Swear

I don’t get it. I just don’t understand her.

I watched as she giggled and playfully punched my older brother in the shoulder.

Let’s face it, I was used to bringing a girl home and watching her flock over Taylor… but my best friend and girl of my dreams was completely wrapped up in Isaac. Huh? Isaac? I’m the one who has been her best friend since we were ten years old! What did she see in Isaac that she couldn’t find in me?

She didn’t even seem to notice when I walked out of the living room and retreated upstairs to my bedroom. I wasn’t in the mood to watch the two of them any longer.

Minutes later, she appeared at my bedroom door with a huge grin plastered across her face.

“Zac, I know we planned on hanging out tonight, but Isaac finally asked me out! Can you believe it?” she gushed as she squealed in delight.

I tried my best to fake a smile, “That’s great, Kels. I’m happy for you,” I lied.

“I know, right? Are you sure you won’t be mad at me if I cancel our plans for tonight?” she asked me as a bit of worry gleamed in her green eyes.

“It’s fine. I know you’ve been waiting for Isaac to ask you out forever now, so go for it…” I said, giving her shoulder a squeeze. I’m starting to think I’ve become quite a good liar.

“Thanks Zac! You’re the best friend a girl could ask for!” she replied as she embraced me in a huge hug.

As I wrapped my arms around her and breathed in the scent of her fruity shampoo, I knew I would never forgive myself for not telling her how I felt. She was about to go out with my older brother and I was too afraid to tell her that I wished it could be me.

As she pulled away from me, her worried eyes were now shining with excitement.

“Okay, I better get going. I will call you when I get home tonight and tell you how it went. I love you, BFF!” she exclaimed.

Her BFF. That’s all I was to her.

“Love you too, Kels…” I replied with a small smile.

“Pinky swear?” she asked. This was something we had done since we were kids.

I reached out my pinky and connected it with hers. “Pinky swear,” I said softly. I sighed as I watched her exit my bedroom. I wasn’t lying to her. I did love her… only I loved her a lot differently than she would ever realize.
