Gleeview: Sexy

Last night's episode was monumental! It's as simple as that. I'll divide this review into three main points, designated by character, from least important to most important (to the episode).
Kurt
I've been fairly critical at times of Kurt's storyline. At one point, especially early this season, it became the main storyline of the show, and it was too much. But, Kurt in smaller doses is good, and last night was a prime example. The best Kurt scene last night was the "sex talk" he had with his father. Burt has never been a perfect parent, but at least he tries, which is more than can be said of, say, Quinn's parents or even Rachel's, who can't even take their daughter to the doctor. But, Burt Hummel stepped up last night and gave his gay son the sex talk that needed to be given, even at the risk of getting him angry again. If I were in Burt's shoes, I'm not sure I'd have the guts to say "with two guys, you got two people who think sex is just sex" to my son who might take that to mean "gays are more promiscuous." Good for him!
Quinn
Poor, poor, poor Quinn! I know there are many Glee viewers out there who really dislike her right now. But, as I implied in another earlier review, Quinn is a lost girl right now. The only thing she's sure of right now is that she needs control of her life, and she has finally sunk to sleeping with Finn in order to get it. It's quite obvious she didn't do it because she's truly in love with him. I'm sure she feels "better" about sleeping with Finn than she did with Puck, but I'm also pretty sure it's not all that satisfying to her. Instead of hating her right now, I can only feel sorry for her as someone who can relate at least to a point with her upbringing. I hope she finds peace and real happiness at some point, but right now she's drifting.
Brittana (Santittany)
Finally, we come to the single most daring thing I've personally seen on prime time network TV, even more daring than having an openly gay teenage boy from practically the beginning of the series. The seriousness with which Brittany and Santana's storyline was treated in this episode was amazing. There's not much to say really. It was raw, emotional and just plain good TV. Also, Santana's speech was by far the most genuine declaration of feelings ever on Glee. Heather Morris (Brittany) stepped up her acting game in this episode, especially in the scene in which she sang with Santana, but Naya Rivera (Santana) was spectacular. I'm on record with my belief that Lea Michele is the best actor on Glee, and maybe she is on a consistent basis, but Ms. Rivera was at her best last night and matched Lea Michele's best work on Glee. Amazing!
Oh yeah, and Gwyneth Paltrow guest starred. She really did, and did a good job too.
Favorite lines:
I'm not going with funny here. I'm going with the Brittana scene. It was well-written and beautifully acted.
Santana: Hi.
Brittany: Hey.
Santana: Can we talk?
Brittany: But we never do that.
Santana: Yeah I know but um, I wanted to thank you, for performing that song with me in Glee club
Brittany: Yeah.
Santana: 'Cause it’s made me do a lot of thinking. What I’ve realized, is why I’m such a bitch all the time. I’m a bitch because I’m angry. I’m angry because I have all of these feelings. Feelings for you, that I’m afraid of dealing with. Because I’m afraid of dealing with the consequences. And Brittany, I can’t go to an Indigo Girls concert, I just can’t
Brittany: I understand that.
Santana: Do you understand what I’m trying to say here?
Brittany: No, not really.
Santana: I wanna be with you. But I’m afraid of the talks and the looks. I mean you know what happened to Kurt at this school
Brittany: But Honey, if anybody were to ever make fun of you, you would either kick their ass or slash them with your vicious, vicious words.
Santana: Yeah I know but I’m so afraid of what everyone will say behind my back. Still I have to accept, that I love you. I love you and I don’t want to be with Sam or Finn or any of those other guys, I just want you. Please say you love me back. Please.
Brittany: Of course I love you. I do. And I would totally be with you if it weren’t for Artie.
Santana: Artie?
Brittany: I love him too. I don’t wanna to hurt him, that’s not right, I can’t break up with him.
Santana: Yes you can. He’s just a stupid boy.
Brittany: But it wouldn’t be right. Santana, you have to know, if Artie and I were to ever break up, and I’m lucky enough that you’re still single…
Santana: Don’t.
Brittany: I am so yours. Proudly so.
Santana: Yeah wow, who ever thought that being fluid meant you could be so stuck?
Brittany: I’m sorry. Totally...I
Santana: Get off me!
Brittany: I’m sorry.
Musical Rundown:
The music was pretty inconsequential in this episode, with one exception.
"Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)" by Joan Jett--This was really fun. Gwyneth Paltrow is a good enough singer to carry this off. Just fun.
"Animal" by Neon Trees--Typical Warblers, polished but kind of blah. Kurt's awkward attempts at sexy were funny though. And, it was well sung.
"Kiss" by Prince--This was well done, and it actually kind of made me a Will/Holly shipper. It did show some ingenuity to make this song into a tango.
"Landslide" written by Stevie Nicks--This was the Dixie Chicks' arrangement, and it very beautiful, and again the acting that these two (Naya Rivera and Heather Morris) did in this scene was amazing. The three voices blended very well together too.
"Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band--This was good and weird, but it was supposed to be. When was the last time a song in which Lea Michele (Rachel) participated was overshadowed by another one? It's been awhile.
