Yesterday, I flew.

Yesterday I flew from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Charlotte, North Carolina to Knoxville, Tennessee. My daughter just moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee in late July. Her husband can't move until early November so she really needed a visit from family. She found me some good fares. REALLY good fares. As we were on the phone I mused

Aw...I know they appreciated it.

I flew on Sept. 11, 2004--from Omaha to Newark, and then that night, from Newark out over the Atlantic to Edinburgh. Coming into Newark, I had a brilliant view of the Statue of Liberty, and leaving, we seemed to fly right next to the beams of light reaching up to the clouds in tribute. It was beautiful and sad, but not scary.

I'm glad you got there safe and didn't need the pills!

Vair, vair cool on your flight!!!!!

I'm thrilled and stunned I didn't need the pills. It's my second drug-free flight. I didn't fly regularly until a couple of years ago - say once every ten years so so - too poor to go anywhere major when the children were little.

On a funny note, due to not getting out much, I hadn't been to Nebraska ever until April for that conference. I thought it was further. West. I remember telling someone: "Nebraska's not far, it's only about a third of a Valium away."

My reality does not match your Earth reality. ((Buffy season 3?))

I must say that I got a little choked up reading this. Thank you for thanking them.

So many times I've been in situations where I've thought "I should have done this or that, but I didn't want to embarrass myself."
If they're going off to risk their lives for me, the least I can do is show some respect. Embarrassment is a selfish emotion, pretty much the opposite of courage.

This is a wonderful post. My nephew is a Lieutenant in the army. It means so much to him when people stop--even for just one second--and say thanks.

You done a good thing.
