i keep hearing everywhere that in a years time the government will bring back the draft, and will also be including women in the draft

the flag was already out, so we bought little flags and tied them to all the trees on our block. and at school i organized a charity party to benefit the red cross.
when i was in school, i use to argue that we have to stand by our president; no matter what, we have to trust him. i've just been so discouraged by everything that's happened in the year that we've been at war - i'm not sure we belong there anymore. so that's one reason why i wouldn't want to go. also, like i said before, i would not be useful at all. i would be too scared to do anything.
however it is grossly contradictory to be patriotic when it suits you and want to flee the country 3 years later.
as an american citizen it is your right to disagree with your president. it is your right to disagree with politics and policies and laws. if you were anywhere else, your get your hand, foot, head chopped off without a fair trial. in this country you wont even be taken to trial for expressing your disgust.
but when it all comes down to it, running away is hypocritical. if you dont like the state of the country, then do something about it. VOTE.
i do vote. i was a volunteer for the gore campaign. i did not vote for this president. i don't think that since i'm not willing to die in a war i don't believe in makes me unpatriotic or a hypocrite. i don't think i'm a hypocrite for running away - i think i'm being a coward for not wanting to lose my life, i won't deny that. i do not support this war. i used to agree with the president, but over the past year i've changed my mind. i love america, i love living in america, but i don't agree with a lot of what goes on here. as you said above, this is one of the few countries where i can say that without getting arrested. one of the things i don't agree with is that the government has the ability to force me to participate in a war that i do not agree with, especially, knowing how i am, i would not be of any good use, especially when i wouldn't be dying for my country, i'd be dying for the iraqi people, and that's not something i'm willing to do. i don't think that's being unpatriotic
