I really enjoy living in the future. Today, while visiting a NASA base in a city I've no knowledge of, one of my shoes failed. Wanting some other supplies as well, I walked out to my rental car, started it up, and spend 30 seconds typing "Target" into the GPS console. I considered myself a fairly sophisticated Apple customer. With my iPad and iPhone, I check the rumor sites to see what will be in the latest OS updates. Wow. I just had the mother of an undergraduate call me in my office to inquire about possible UROP opportunities in my lab. While I am in fact looking for students to hire, I'm not clear I want to deal with a student whose mother is calling me. I told her to have him send me a resume, but dare I even respond?

Well, I'm back from the Exotic West. I was pretty disappointed that it rained throughout my conference. I was promised much better weather from Pasadena. But the week down in SF for the wedding was lovely.
