Well folks, I got back from Chicago at around 8 p.m. or so today and oh man. For the most part a wonderful trip, and the festival exceeded my expectations. I'll make a quick list of my favorite acts.

10. Built to Spill - These guys were pretty cool. About what I expected from them...I'm not a huge fan but the songs I did know were great. I was ( Read more... )

That was NOT your first time to see Ryan Adams, Matt!

Argh I'm so stupid. I knew that. I was even talking about that show in Chicago. I guess it felt kinda like the first though since we didn't know what we were doing at a Ryan Adams show.

Forgive me!

i was greatly appreciative of your snacks. not only did you say, "there will be snacks," but by golly, you let there be snacks.

sounds like the best kind of fan.

i think that andy bird would be an incredible show in front of >150. then i think the impressiveness of looping all of his music is amplified.

so, i think you should have asked all the other people to leave.

You meant <150 right? We were saying the same thing...it'd be a lot better to see him in a more intimate venue. Looking back, I'm kicking myself for not trying to ask a lot of people to leave. Well you live and learn.

Awesome! Have fun man. Yeah I saw probably 30 beards on stage over the weekend, and you'll be glad to know that Sam Beam still leads the pack.

That's cool; I think a lot of people agree with you about Whiskeytown records. They're probably the same people who would call Heartbreaker his best work, and I disagree. It's a good album, but as a whole it's just too low-key for me. Drags a bit I guess. I understand what you're saying--Ryan is the poster boy for album filler--but IMO Love Is Hell is a great cohesive work, and though Cold Roses has a few filler tracks and is a bit too long, it's a great album as well.

For the most part though, you're right...he's a bit hit or miss.
