Summary:

Lunchtime at RDNA
Topic lead to telling inappropriate jokes
I mentioned that I wanted to tell a great 9/11 joke (heard it from my brother Dave, and Noah also posted it)
The lunchtime crew didn't want to hear it for some reason

the thing i have worked on in the last few years is learning to be certain of things so that my good instincts are not controlled by people around me who have bad ones. like when you go into the hardware store and everyone is telling bad jokes and your instinct is "that's not funny," it is a lot better to NOT listen to their opinions, and be closeminded to them, because they are bad influences. there is a limit to this which is difficult for me to recognize. but yeah i think getting older does involve a certain amount of being closeminded, as a survival skill. because if we were always concerned about being correct, we'd never be certain of the earth remaining where it is. so i accept some things as necessary to believe. even if they aren't necessarily true, they seem the most likely/best. another reason for this is literal self-defense, which requires immediate judgment and not self-questioning. in psychology this is the difference between a Judger or Perceiver. I was a Perceiver for many years ( ... )

listening is everything
even when we disagree with someone
'my favorite color' is forest green vs sky blue
its important to value the person and their view and to explain
how its possible to view things both ways
ACCEPTANCE is huge, we can all agree to disagree,
all of these are view points, democracy is founded on disagreement.
Each person, each human being is so important, and each of us has value and it is important to make each other feel valued and to listen to each other, and that is how we heal our country.
