I've been lurking around here lately, and loving the fall pics. I was wondering about the yarn, though. When you dye your own yarn, do you have to buy it white or is there like a "natural" color that you have to get? The whole deal seems pretty fascinating. I don't know much about yarn--my mom laughed at me because I got No Dye Lot yarn and didn't know what it meant or why she was concerned.

Anyway, just curious. I love the fall pictures. They are quite beautiful and relaxing.

Thanks. :)

Almost any colour yarn can be dyed (or dyed over). I don't actually use white, but the ones I do up tend to start off as some variation of natural colour or are pastels.

Yarn is coloured in batches or dye lots. Colours can have small variations in tone between dye lots, so it's always important to check whether the yarn you buy comes from the same dye lot for a single colour if that's what you're using for a project. Otherwise, your project could have areas that are slightly different shades of the same colour. No Dye Lot yarn is yarn in which all the colours are uniform and there is no need to worry about whether some of the balls you buy might be of different shades depending on which batches they were dyed in.

Lovely as always!
Once I have a yarn budget again (stitches completely wiped me out!) I'll be knocking on your yarn dyeing door! :D

I hope you're having a glorious fall day! It's been quite lovely around here this weekend.

Thanks! It was absolutely beautiful over here. Aftrenoons that you don't want to end. :) I'm glad you've been having similar weather -- the fall is far too short to waste on precipitation and cloud cover!

Welcome back! How was your weekend?

And NO! *big pout* Unfortunately, not yet. I've downloaded BitTorrent and have registered at suprnova and everything (including having to wait 32 hours before attempting my first DL) but every time I choose a download, the estimated time starts at 59h and increases exponentially as time passes -- without downloading anything. :/ Does the downloading normally take that long?

Weekend was great! Santa Barbara was beautiful; it was supposed to rain all weekend, but the rain was held at bay and just started sprinkling as we were leaving. :) Did lots of walking, exploring antique shops and all-around relaxing. Wedding was really nice, too ( ... )
