What is happening to this school?!

This whole semester has been like a bad dream. I've never quite been around anything like it. The atmosphere itself is almost surreal. For those of you who don't know, this has been a semester of just absolutely terrible and random occurences that will no doubtedly give ball state a bad name. First there was the instance where a kid was so drunk he ( Read more... )

I love you Matt, but personally I think it's really sad that the only thing this campus can unite on is partying. Colleges used to rally over war and equality issues. I think our generation is kind of pathetic.
I do agree that the Police Yourself campaign is a badly approached and marketed idea and they are pretty much pushing away the student body. BSU is good at that. They seem to like to alienate us, lol.

I agree that it's said. Sorry for the lack of clarity in my post. While I think the police yourself thing is a little over the line, I think students are taking their aggressions about it a little too far. I don't, by any means, intend to compare this type of protest to more "worthwhile" protests such as for war and equality. Personally I think it's rather stupid that all of the students are getting so upset about it. As someone i know put it "Students think of college as a right of passage that, for some strange reason, gives them the RIGHT to drink underage..." I agree wholeheartedly that it's stupid that they feel justified in being so against it. They aren't above the law, but seem to think they are just because they're in college.

My one problem with the police yourself campaign is the threat of expelling students. Let the police have the authority they need to deal with the situation, but leave it at that. Ball State should not have the power to expell students after they've already paid the price of arrest/ticket/fine.

I was merely trying to convey how out of hand the whole situation has gotten, I didn't really intend to voice my stand on the whole issue....merely letting people who don't go here in on what has been happening.

Oh, definitely...not trying to attack you at all, babe. *mwah* I do think that the whole tie between the academics and the citations is a little bizarre...I mean, if you were working a job instead of going to college, the two would be separate unless it was something really serious I guess. Haha I think they would be better off teaching the Muncie police how to pave the friggin roads so that we can not fall to China in a pothole. That would be more beneficial to the community in general. Hehe.
