book suggestions?

Jan 02, 2009 12:26

Anyone have any fast ideas?  In about 2 hours I'm headed out armed with GCs and coupons for both Borders and Barnes&Nobles.  Looking for something new.  I read almost everything - mystery, fantasy, chick lit, historical fiction.  Also good (healthy) cookbook suggestions would be worth looking at.

Have you read the Diana Gabaldon books?

I haven't, and they only had the first one in hardcover at B&N, but I'll continue to look for it, either at the store or the library.

I think you would LOVE them. I can't believe it took me so long to read them -- they are amazing --

I'm shocked that B&N only had the hardcovers!

Their stock in general was pretty low, it didn't appear that they'd restocked much since the holiday, as there were quite a few empty spaces on the shelves. I think they had some of the ones further into the series in paperback.

Ann Patchett (general fiction), Kim Harrison (fantasy/occult), Karen Marie Moning (fantasy/occult - the Fever series), Tana French (fiction/mystery), P.J. Tracy (mysteries/suspense). I can't think of anything else right now. You might want to check out my Visual Bookshelf on Facebook (I can't right now -- I'm at my brother's and my connection is sucking, and I have to run). Unfortunately, I've been reading mostly books I already own lately, because of the money situation.

I'm up to date on my Kim Harrison reading - I need to add the others on this list to my palm, so I have it available in the future.

I did get one of the latest Laurell Hamilton books, which I never would have been introduced to if you and Greg hadn't sent me the one for my birthday ages ago.

I enjoy buying books, and love having them new and crisp. I usually either pass them on to family or friends if I'm not going to reread them or add them to my collection to read over and over, so I don't really mind paying bookstore prices, and like I said, I only go in there with coupons or discounts, so I'm ok with that. :)

I read the Twilight series early last year. I haven't heard of William Paul Young, what kind of book is it?

I believe The Shack is classified as "religious fiction"... even having read the book I think it's hard to really describe or categorize it. It's a pretty easy read but it'll give you quite a lot to think about in terms of God and why things happen. My sister's book club read it, then I borrowed it and have passed it on to a couple of coworkers. So far everyone has liked it.

You know, I started this a while ago, and never got past the first few chapters. I might have to give it another try sometime.
