(Or because the mun is a great big Trek geek from way back...)
1. Why did you choose to give her a name?
Because when I’m playing this character, I’m getting into her head. She’s not going to think of herself by her position only. She’s a person and deserves to be fleshed out, complete with a name.
2. Why did you choose Morgan Lefler and not Eunice/Euredyce Robbins or even Number One?
Really because I liked it best. Number One wasn’t an option really since I wasn’t going with the idea of her being Illyrian, and Eunice/Euredyce (from the Marvel comic book series) just doesn’t seem to fit her, especially in the reboot. I also liked the idea of playing with the Lefler family as a whole (since in my mind, Morgan is related to Robin Lefler from TNG although not in the same way as implied in Peter David’s books).
3. Why did you make Morgan human and not Illyrian like in D.C. Fontana’s book?
Mainly because of “The Cage”. The Talosians were very specific about humans being an adaptable species, not humanoids, and in Trek, the term “humans” usually always refers exclusively to those from Earth (or Earth extraction). Given that Number One was ready to recite exactly just how old Vina was, if she were anything other than human, she would have said as much to the Talosians. Also, because Morgan is human, this means she's not immortal (per the implication in PD's books).
4. Which means you’ve also thrown out the idea of her being genetically engineered?
Oh, hell yes. For one, it’s been established in on-screen canon (DS9) that genetic engineering is taboo in the Federation, so I really didn’t want that to be part of her history. For two, I’m seriously appalled at the idea that a female character like Number One couldn’t be awesome, competent and intelligent on her own without having been created that way by someone else, and I think D.C. Fontana did the character a HUGE disservice in doing that to her.
5. So she has a family, including a father who’s a now retired admiral?
Yes, she does. Just because she has family in Starfleet and parents who care about her, that doesn’t mean she can’t be a logical, rational, good officer. I like the idea of exploring that side of her and her showing it to those who get to know her well.
6. Now she’s a captain about to take command of the new Hood?
Yes. She was already shown as a capable first officer in “The Cage”, so there’s nothing to indicate that she couldn’t get her own command. And with the need to replace the seven ships lost in the reboot verse during the battle with the Narada, the possibility of her getting a ship would be very good.
7. Does she need a crew?
I would love to RP with other characters as part of the Hood crew, whether it’s a new verse, a general verse or part of an existing verse. Send me a PM if you’d like to discuss!
8. Any standing orders?
Admiral Christopher/Christa Pike is always welcome on Captain Lefler’s ship, even if the arrival is unannounced.
