Now was the time. The group crouched, huddled in a dark corner between the outside of the building and a row of bushes. The boat was pulling up to the docks and a shadowy figure was walking out to meet it.
"Okay, this is it. As soon as they go inside we run for it. Have we got everything?" Luke asked.
Matt flipped through the contents of the bag while the others went through the list of supplies.
"The tools?"
"No, I don't see them," Matt said.
"They were in a small bag."
Matt shook his head. "I haven't got it."
"What do you mean you don't have it?' Shane asked aloud.
"Are you sure?" Jessi asked, leaning in to help Matt search.
"Oh no," Chris muttered. "They aren't there. I let them- I know where. I'll go get them."
As Chris jumped up, Shane stood as well and grabbed his brother's arm. "Forget it. We don't have time to go back now. We'll make do without them."
Chris shook his head. "But what if we can't? If he takes the keys inside with him, we won't be able to start the boat without the tools. I know exactly where they are. It will only take a minute."
"Let me go," Shane insisted.
"I'll be quicker on my own," Chris said, already heading toward the door. "Don't wait for me. I'll catch up."
