Fibro update/new meds that actually help

Nov 21, 2006 14:37

I've had fibromyalgia and lupus for years, diagnosed in 2000. I've been on a cane since then, with severe pain from my hips to my toes, and in my arms. Fibro is a weird disease, and has been a difficult one for researchers to track down. My doctor was at a conference a few weeks ago, and heard a presentation on the probable cause of fibro, and a ( Read more... )

Wow - what a thought! I guess I fit that description too, being under a high level of low-lying stress for most of my life.

One question - I have a friend who took Cymbalta and she claimed that for the year she was on it, she only had two orgasms. She wanted to and all, her libido was still high, but the ability to do it was completely wiped out. Is this a common side effect? Lexapro did that for me, for a long time until I finally got used to it, so I worry about the Cymbalta. Other than that, it sounds like a miracle drug.

I'm doing pretty well on the Lyrica, but can't say I feel completely well. I may well ask about this. Thank you!

I haven't noticed any sexual problems with Cymbalta - and I've had them on other psychmeds. I think it's an individual reaction thing. From what I remember, it's one of the lower effect drugs.
And - it was good to hear that this affected the limbic system as well, which tends to lead to major depression.
Now that I know how the damn disease works, it's easier to cope with. ;) But that's just me.

This is VERY good news. I am delighted to hear it. Pity it comes too late for my mother, who doctors refused to believe when she told them she was in pain...said it wa all psychological and she should seek counselling. GREAT that it comes in time for you. Thanks for sharing, it is a ray of sunshine in an otherwise very dark, bleak, Finnish November.

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of twitdoctors who think it's all psychological, or that you're a hypochondriac, or...I'm just happy to have a doctor who keeps up with the latest research.

It's an amazing thing to be able to walk at my former usual clip - and without pain. I've had some balance problems, but they're dealable.

Wow! This is fibro news to pass on to people I know. Not needing the cane is great. I hope this sticks!!

Feel free to pass on. It's fairly cutting edge information, and really needs to get out there. I've been having so much fun walking around at my prior usual clip, without pain. :) I hope it sticks, too.
