Those look like the colorguard outfits at my school. So perhaps you weren't that off in your asessment that they're typical. But hey, sometimes you just can't improve upon the original design.
And don't worry about looking ugly in something. I know it's easy for me to say that when I'm sitting here alone in a cami and men's boxers, but try to remember that typically people are at least 25 percent more attractive than they believe themselves to be. And that everyone around you in the same outfit it probably worrying that very same worry.
You wouldn't happen to have a picture, would you? My instructor informed us that these outfits haven't been ordered by any other band, or something to that effect.

Are we really? That's very good to know. Hahha. How do you know that?
Sorry, no pictures, but they're not exactly the same; I just meant they kindof had the same sort of style. My memory's a bit foggy because I only saw the outfit once and that was when I was waiting for the late bus and colorguard was practicing on the field nearby. Not exactly firsthand experience.
Yes, we are, believe it or not! And I know because I conducted a study about peer perception vs. self-image, aka, me going around with a picture of a girl I knew and asking people to rate her on a scale of 1-10, then comparing the average to her personal rating of her appearance. It's not exactly university material, but it got some questions answered.
I like the uniforms, but I hate them at the same time. They seem so Cliche', as you said. I might drop by for a visit or two, and I am definitely coming to Band Camp. Oh how i miss you gals and guys sooooo.
For starters, we're starting really early in the season. I don't know if you're aware of this, but we have summer rehearsals every Monday and occasionally Saturdays. I guess it's because the instructors don't want to be teaching "basics" during band camp

She might turn out to be a decent enough instructor, but it's not like we're going to be buddies anytime soon.
Yay! Come to band camp. It's from August 14-18, a little later during the month. And then you can watch us fry up and get burnt to death in the sun.
