They should ban kilts too. I think the next big terror attacks are going to come from those pesky Scottish separatists. They hate us Americans because the bagpipes haven't been in mainstream music since Korn was popular.
While I don't agree with civil or criminal religious courts that seek to supercede the local laws, I also believe that freedom of religion means allowing anything that does not infringe on the rights of others or go against the established laws. For example, wearing some massive khukri in public is a big no no as it violates the criminal code regarding carrying a lethal weapon outside of your home.
There is absolutely no reason to ban certain types of clothing. It's never been considered a criminal act, nor does it infringe on the well being of others. Claiming that it is being done because the *symbol* makes some people uncomfortable is just claiming that intolerance is acceptable, if not encouraged.. This isn't a nazi swastika, the muslim religion itself doesn't condone extremism. The only "just" way of handling this is to also ban unique clothing from other faiths, such as the jewish cap or sihk wraps.
