First of all I think we have to expect that the Repugs will spin this as a Palin win. It wasn't, not in fact and not in effect. At the absolute best, it wasn't a rout. The pundits are saying it was a good evening for her, but that it was also a good evening for Biden and that a few days from now everyone will have forgotten it. Focus group reactions seem to have been fairly anti-Palin, though.

In my opinion, the best thing about this is that she did fairly well. Don't shoot me! I think that if she had done extremely horribly, there was some outside chance she might have been replaced with someone people might actually vote for. But now she'll stay on the ticket and I don't think she changed anyone's mind favorably.

The next two debates are the ones that really matter, and they are the two that favor Obama.

There's a good Huff Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/29/biden-palin-debate-update_n_130197.htmlpost that gives a good indication of how audience reaction went tonight. It wasn't good for McPain. It's the Huff Post, so it's biased, but what they say about reaction is probably accurate. The fundie and stupid people who were already in Sarah's thrall loved it, I think. Independents and, really, anyone with a brain cell, did not react well to her.
