As much as I would love to believe that having a black president would make everything regarding the "theories about people's inherent racism and ignorance" go away, it's really not going to.
As much as I love New England, and the Boston area in particular, there's a definite liberal bubble suspended around it. I never realized it until I moved away, and maybe I never truly understood it until this election, but it exists. Maybe you're right about the idea that these characteristics are not inherent, but if living here has taught me anything it's that racism and ignorance are not theories, they are a way of life for a lot of people throughout the country.
If Obama gets elected, I hope it will go a long way to curbing those ideas, but there is no possible way it will erase them entirely.
Perhaps in a few generations these racist tendencies will begin to fade away. Perhaps in a few generations, these people who are so vehement against homosexuals marrying will fade away. But that's like saying perhaps in a while I'll begin to see the reasoning behind gay bashers. People's ignorance and racism isn't going to be swept away if Obama is elected.
We're not into adulthood yet;we're still in our teen years, rebelling against our parents and breaking curfew.
Also, I am delirious. These fuckers outside my window are about to get beaten with a field hockey stick.
We must be in contact throughout the evening; I have 12 places to be and none of them are here.
