Radiohead, Downloads, and help from the UK?

Oct 03, 2007 23:39

OK, so just in case any of you haven't yet seen the news, Radiohead's new album is being released next Wednesday. They just announced it on Sunday. The format's a pretty bold experiment - in 2003, upon the release of Hail to the Thief, their contract with EMI ended. Rather than signing with another label, they're going to distribute the album ( Read more... )

My understanding from the Today programme this morning is that a normal CD version will be released later on this year but that the distribution deal hasn't been agreed yet. I don't know if that influences your decision at all.

I heard that, later in the day on their podcast. It's interesting, because there was no word of it Sunday, and the press that I read over seemed to imply that there wasn't going to be a CD version at all. Maybe they changed their minds?
I think, if I can get the money together (and it looks like Helen'll help me with that) then I'll just order the limited edition, and then be happy. :-)

That would be absolutely awesome, thank you. I did a brief hunt to look to see if yarn is on the list of things you can't send (but then, so's chocolate, and people send that all the time), but I couldn't find the list and it's late, but I'll add in the caveat that depending on what you want, if we're unlucky, those nice people at customs might decide that yarn is too dangerous to allow into the country, or something.
I forget what you need over there to pay money in, account number and sort code? I'll E-mail tomorrow.

Thanks, again.

The thing that annoys me is that there's no way of downloading the thing in some lossless format. Which is silly, given how many intricate details must be hidden in the mix.

Also, I'd quite happily buy an extended version of the album with the extra songs, but without the vinyl which I'll never use.

Right on the vinyl, but it may be worth it anyway depending on how much extra artwork there is. I'd love a lossless format, extra points for higher quality than that - Linn have already proved with their downloads that you can actually rip to Windows Media in studio quality, 24bit 192khz, and that would be amazing if they'd give you that. That's my biggest issue with Amazon's mp3 store, actually - only one choice of format.

I see you have Helen helping you out, which is good :)

I'll be buying it ... I'll probably pay at least £10 for it. Maybe more, on the basis that I believe in what they're doing and would like to support that.

Hi,

Matt, from Egosoft Forums, and for that matter many years ago.

If your still having problems with this I should be able to help, shouldn't be too much of a hassle to put another order in for the box set.

Just reply to this if you wont to go down this route.

Well, that goes to prove that I really don't have enough time recently. How'd you find me? And long time, no speak. If you want to E-mail (given how long it's taken me to write this reply, don't expect a quick response to that either, but the option's there if you want it) then you can get me on my username @livejournal.com (yes, I'm not typing it out because I don't want spam).
Anyway, to answer your question, I'm already sorted for this, thanks. thebirdwoman helped me out on this, and I should hopefully get a shiny diskbox in the mail in a month or so.

Yes, I twigged that you already had the album after reading your post citing your views on the subject matter, in my defence it had been a long day!

The how and why of me finding you on live journal was fairly straight forward, to track you down on live journal I had a quick scan through groups I suspected you may have interest in. As to why, well having just acquired In Rainbows a voyeuristic curiosity fell upon me, after all it was you who twisted my arm about giving Kid A a chance.
