Wow - I love that analogy. At first I thought you were about to say that as soon as you left Atlanta, you were in a whole new country (the South). It would have worked too.
So, is Crystal City more than just a metro stop? I went there once, maybe twice. The metro had a mall in it. But that was over 15 years ago.
Is Springfield/Franconia too far out? I moved all the way out to Manassas/Lorton.
I described Crystal City in my last post (underground interconnected network of shops, like your standard mall, apartments, and offices including an enormous Lockheed Martin office).
Springfield is technically on the metro, but even further out than Alexandria (and its metro line closes at 8 PM which is completely useless for going out at night). Also, remember I work in Central Maryland so the deeper into Virginia I go, the worse the commute becomes!
And I used the Fredericksburg boundary for 'the South'... because that's what they taught in school in Maryland ;) (though who really knows? I'd currently go with the Potomac River simply because almost no one I know from school in Maryland chose to settle in Virginia... and almost no one I know who grew up in Virginia willingly settles in Maryland long term.)
PS: Springfield/Franconia = "Contra Costa County" (which borders Berkeley's Alameda County) in this analogy; Contra Costa even contains a town
( ... )
I hadn't made it back that far back in my reading. I have decided reading journals are much more beneficial to me than FB posts. Yours was my very first one of the day.
I vaguely remembered it from that one memory and didn't like it. So it was almost a rhetorical question, almost. I had a guy drop me off in Crystal City once or twice - the joys of HOV, being dropped off in strange places.
Yeah, it is on the metro. I used to ride in from that stop. Then I found the bus route that ran in front of my townhouse. It was great because then I went in and out of the Pentagon.
I worked in DC, so yeah, Springfield wasn't bad for me.
I did see that. The entire analogy is awesome. It really is!

If you want a more objective description, you can always use Wikipedia's.
