A list of 100...

Aug 11, 2003 14:19

I got inspired the other day by grapesoda who posted a wonderful 100 information thingie. I've never tried it before, but
1. I was born last of 6 siblings
2. My mother, who had happily breast fed the others for as long as they liked, didn't react on me screaming and losing weight, until I had to go to hospital at 2 months old, where she found out that she had absolutely no milk for me.
3. My eldest sister, who is exactly ten years older than me, thought she was my real mother, and made sure I slept in her room where she could take care of me properly, whatever that now means.
4. She also played with me much as a doll, took me for walks in her doll pram etc.
5. I grew up thinking I had two mothers, where my real mother was the less strict one.
6. My sisters played school with me as a student. I had a lot of homework and if I didn't know it by heart the next day they would take turns in punishing me. This is, I think, one of the reasons to why I have a good memory for languages today, one of the things they pushed in "class" was me memorizing foreign words.
7. My father was away a lot, but when he was at home he put the whole family on hold. We stopped breathing as much as we could and made ourselves invisible.
8. One of my sisters would lock herself in to her room, and be so angry that there was fume coming out of the key hole. She would recite "I hate him" about 400 times, and I was always scared she would be punished for not loving our father, no matter what.
9. Some nights I would have to check my youngest sisters (who was four years older than me) room for insects. She was terrified of any bugs. I would then sleep in her tiny little bed, next to her. Those were the happy nights.
10. I've always played tough in front of others, so they couldn't hurt me through anything.
11. I read my sisters diaries as best sellers.
12. I became an aunt at 7 years old when my brother had his first (of four) child.
13. I always acted happy as little, I wanted people to like me because I could never like myself.
14. I defended anyone against anything.
15. My hero was the then leader of the Swedish Socialist party.
16. I met my hero twice and those were meetings I still cherish as I was completely happy on those days.
17. When I was 9 years old I was in on the organizing on demonstrations against nuclear power plants. Those demonstrations were huge and I talked on TV and Radio and in newspapers about the risks involved. I knew everything about it back then, and could describe a "plant" from inside out.
18. I hated going to school from the very first day.
19. I was seriously bullied, but told no one.
20. The bullies have later in life called me up to beg forgiveness.
21. My home life was rather scary - my school life was rather scary - I turned to books for company and peace.
22. I've read about 7 books a week on average since I was 6 years old.
23. Although I did read the children books on offer, I've always preferred "real" books, even as little.
24. When I was 7 years old, my two favorite books were: "Momone", by Simone Berteaut and "Exodus" by Leon Uris. I've re-read them so many times by now, that I think I know them almost by heart.
25. Every time I started on a new interest as a child - football, ice-hockey etc, my father got involved and I had to quit. (the same for my sisters)
26. I was a girl-scout for 13 years as my whole family was involved in that. I had no choice in the matter but I am glad I was one, because it has made me appreciate the nature so much.
27. I can survive in the woods for many days without food or shelter.
28. When I was little, my mother noticed my fascination of fire. She got a bit worried but she did what she thought best - she put me in the bathtub with a box of matches and let me "fire away".
29. I can make a fire of anything and everything.
30. I could never live in a place without a fireplace.

32. When I first saw Jaws, I stopped swimming anywhere for years.
33. I was always in love with solitude.
34. I've been lost (from my parents) almost everywhere in the world. The police has been called and notified about 15 times.
35. At 9 years old, I went out on Manhattan in my pyjamas in the middle of the night, and was found chatting to a woman who pulled up food from the trash cans - about five hours after I'd gone out.
36. My parents thought I'd been kidnapped in Amsterdam, but I had just found some interesting staircases to climb up and down - at 10 years.
37. At 8 or something, I went with my parents to Paris, and got lost inside the Louvre.
38. I was never scared or aware of being lost. I always knew where I was.
39. At 11, my father took me to Hamburg to show me the real world (as he put it) We took taxis at nights around the red light district and he pushed me out of the taxi to stand and freeze while looking at the "workers" doing their business. I guess he was trying to warn me or something.
40. I was terrified of drug addicts, I kept thinking that one would be hiding under my bed, and stick a needle in me, and I'd be hooked forever and having to live on the streets, selling my self and then die an awful death on a dirty toilet. I was never scared of monsters or other unreal things - just pure reality.
41. I was rarely in school a full day all through my childhood, always leaving for some reason that I'd made up. No one ever notified my mother.
42. I left school at 14 years old. I was sure I'd never go back to that institution - but of course I did.
43. Summer holiday 14 years old and I was out on an Inter rail for the first time with just a friend. We lived dangerously, but managed just fine.
44. At 15 I left home. I went to a "school" of miss behaving girls (My choice) and learned how to weave...I loved to weave, but the rest of the time there is completely lost to me, as for the rest of them I should think. We were always drunk/stoned - I mean, we were miss behaving, right?! Better live up to the fact.
45. At 16 I found a cool school in Denmark - Tvind. It was supposed to be a place where you learned to be a help for the third world. Instead it turned out to be a cult - and one of the weirdest places on earth.
46. With my Danish school I travelled the world - but without ever seeing any sights. It's almost as if I've never been to any of the places I went to. The idea was to live on and off people we met in various countries, and we never paid anyone anything. It was disgusting.
47. A year after starting, I left the "school".
48. I stayed at a self supporting farm, doing my chores quite happily.
49. I went to live in Copenhagen in a commune there. Fun but rather depressing as they all started with heavier drugs and became somewhat passive.

67. After my husband and best friend left, I was completely alone (apart from my sisters and mum) - I had never bothered getting other friends because I was happy with just being the three of us.
68. People ask me if I didn't notice how my husband and friend fell in love, specially as we all lived together, but I was just happy that they were such close friends.
