science! and an idiot on facebook.

Earlier today I read a news article about a bunch of CERN scientists who, in the course of their experiments, discovered that the results showed neutrinos moving faster than light. Einstein's theory of relativity posits that nothing can move faster than light. The CERN scientists put their findings out into the community and asked for other ( Read more... )

wtf, science, particle physics for the win

There's a small geeky part of me that finds this all incredibly fascinating. Also, your entry appeared right below today's XKCD on my friends page, and you helped me understand the comic. ;)

What I love about science is that there's still so much we don't know and that we're still learning new stuff all the time. (Granted, this particular example could fall flat, but this obviously applies to science in general.)

Haha, I actually asked my astrophysicist friend about whether this was possible or if it had to be an error in measurement, and she gave a really good explanation of why the data is in fact possible, but also why we don't necessarily need to throw out relativity ( ... )
