Sanity or Lack Thereof: Tell Me About Your Characters

Aug 24, 2010 22:11

So guys. I cannot stress this enough: Delirium is the anthropomorphic personification of insanity. She is semi-omniscient and probably will know anyone in camp who has some amount of.... lacking sanity. The way I like to say it is that when you brush against her realm you leave something behind. This is how she knows of people. What they leave ( Read more... )

Kodachi is... y-yeah. Well. She's not insane as such but she's got definite sociopathic tendencies. Incredibly narcissistic and immoral and completely fine with rewriting her own history, morals, and view of the world to best fit what's the most beneficial to her.

Stacy is deeply, deeply insecure and neurotic when it comes to being accepted by other people. She's grown out of some of it from being in camp for nearly two years, but she's starting to veer back into that direction where she's eager to please others at the expense of her own identity again. s-sigh Stacy.

Hidan generally comes off as sane as a guy who devoutly believes in a religion all about killing people could possibly be, unless his bloodlust is pinged, and then he's kind of a bloodthirsty maniac.

Hyde and Ty Lee are both pretty normal; Hyde is a conspiracy theorist but isn't really crazy at all and Ty Lee has definite attention issues, but that's all ( ... )

Mm, I hope my Delirium doesn't disappoint. She'll definitely go visiting.

Rinali had a total mental breakdown around age eight, to the point where she had to be tied to a bed to keep her from trying to escape/harming herself. I can't remember how heavily canon hints at this, but I tend to assume she also tried to commit suicide.

Katou is very familiar with altered states of consciousness (lol former hardcore druggie lol) and dubious moments sanity. With the previous Del, I played it as he recognized her right away from some of his weirder trips. THUS he's actually surprisingly comfortable around her.

Sebastian she just might recognize as a demon.

Screw has severe amnesia due to being in a cryogenic sleep for about fifty years.

Fuuto's next incarnation/the one that comes after that (canon is a little unclear on this matter) is bugfuck insane. I mean, we are talking about 70 years in the future here, but since this is Del, I assume this counts. Mahatibha doesn't really see anything other than his twin brother as real, and has the tendency to therefore not care if he kills anyone! He's very cheerful about ( ... )

Del may have a feeling that Fuuto's next incarnation will be hers, but it'd be faint at best. She'd be friendly with him regardless.

Katou and Del sound like they'd be quite the pair! I'd love to play off him sometime!

Of the others, Larxene and Cain may ping her a little more than the others (based on what I know), but agreed, they'd still be on a far lower level on the scale.

Hisoka has...lots of issues! His empathy made his parents and everyone in the household hate him as a child because he was "demonic" and stuff and he spent lots of quality time in the cellar/dungeon/basement feeling hated hooray! And then when he was 13 he was raped and cursed to die, which didn't help his sanity either. SO YES HE HAS ISSUES although he's remarkably sane-ish. He knew the previous Delirium in camp and because his empathy is really Special, he probably won't spend a whole lot of time in her presence at any time.

Akane is basically sane, although she has anger management issues.

Fakir has uh...a fear of dying, of being useless, major guilt complexes about not being able to protect people he cares about, and things like that.

Wakaba is older than she looks and baaaasically sane, though she has some emo underneath the cheerfulness. But she's a Shinigami like Hisoka and being unstable is in the job requirement.

Cecile is sane! And what you see is what you get, emotionally.

Husky has a fish...spirit-thing attached to ( ... )

...oh yeah, he also hates girls/has ISSUES about them because it was a girl who almost killed him. THIS OUGHT TO BE GOOD :D;;;

And I forgot earlier, but I'm fine OOCly with most things being mentioned as long as you don't mind them possibly reacting badly ICly.

Ladd is crazy. He's capable of being occasionally sane and forming plans and such, but he's crazy. And Crazy Violent. My brain is pretty off right now, so I am not going to be able to explain it well. But. Besides the extreme violence, Ladd is sort of mentally regressive as well; skipping, humming, pouting and whining...that sort of stuff. He doesn't act his age very often. ^^;

Secret is not specifically crazy, but she's got a lot of trauma, along with some serious trust and abandonment issues from her Tragic Backstory. She's also (kinda) the personification of death (one of many, in camp! ;D) she is the gateway into the abyss, which is the go-between between life and death.

Secret will definitely ping her; since Del's favorite sister is Death, it's likely that some.... really strange conflict may come up. I'm gonna research Secret some more so I better know how to handle it if it came up, but based on past games, Del has always had trouble with other personifications of death. Her two general responses are either to mistake that being for her sister, or to deny it: "you're not my sister." Or depending on how personified Secret is, she may believe Secret WORKS for her sister. That's her default view on beings such as shinigami.

Twins are more or less sane. But! They have a unique view on the world. And a Curse Seal that isn't healthy for their mental state (but they haven't used it hardly at all in two years)

Harper is usually very sane! For a semi-feral child who grew up in an atrocious environment and still has the mental scars from that. If a little manic and has loads and loads of issues. But he had an entire library shoved in his head and went just a tiny bit crazy for a while. That'll ping Del.

BB is sane! ... but his logic is very special sometimes.

Doyle is sane. His issues wouldn't really ping Del (well he had some identity issues, half-demon and all, but he's mostly sorted them out)

... I've dropped all my real crazies. This makes me sad.

I'd like to know more about Harper. Should I go for Wiki, or do you have essays or other resources I should check out?

(sorry for the late reply. school is eating my life. orz. but!)

Harper's wiki is sadly... less than complete. There is a nice essay here (though I don't necessarily share all of the opinions presented) with some Harper basics (beware major spoilers): essay

If you want to know more about the ep where he has his closest brush with insanity (he goes a little tiny bit crazy in between seasons 4 and 5 too but my Harper is from mid-season two... oooon the other hand Camp is a lot like the situation he was in between four and five.) it's easiest to watch it.

If you want to ask questions, I'll happily answer (e-eventually) but until then there's streams here

I am biased and recommend the first two seasons but the ep in particular is Season one, episode 14: Harper 2.0
