Torments in Powder Pink: Chapter Nine

Hot Chocolate on a Cold Day

The weeks passed by so quickly. Before they new it, it was time for their long awaited comeback with the release of Sorry Sorry. The release called for promotions meaning that much time had to be spent in the dance studio practising the routine and in photo shoots. Kyuhyun and Sungmin hardly spent much time together any more. When they woke up they had to leave for schedule and by the time they got back, they were so tired that they'd just slump into bed for the gentle release of sleep, easing the days stresses away.

Half way through the week, they'd been given a day off. A full day to spend how ever they'd like. When faced with this thought, Kyuhyun decided that the best option for him would be to spend it playing starcraft. He'd even been too tired to play it after his schedules. He never thought he'd see the day. Sungmin, on the other hand, wanted to go out. He ached for the outside, something other than those cramped, stuffy practice rooms that were suffocating him. But there was one question: what to do? And whom with? He didn't really like the idea of doing anything alone and he knew in the back of his mind who he'd like to spend it with.

On the morning of the free day, he rose early and made breakfast. When cooked, he made his way to Kyuhyun 's(who was still asleep) room and knocked. A grumpy moan was elicited but Sungmin was determined. Knocking again, he shouted energetically:

“Kyuhyun shii, spend the day with me!”

No reply. Sungmin wouldn't give up that easily. Just as he was about to shout again, informing him of his refusal to give in, the door nob twisted and opened, revealing a dishevelled and bed-headed Kyuhyun.

“Morning! I've made breakfast.” Sungmin beamed.

“Morning hyung. I'll be out in a minute.”

That was easier that Sungmin had expected. Beaming from ear to ear, he headed to the table to wait for Kyuhyun.

As he waited, the sun streamed in through the window next to him, showering him with rays of heat that heightened his mood even further. Anyone would have thought it was the middle of summer instead of spring. The mischievous weather was trying to trick people again. He was about to turn to look out of the window when his phone went off indicating a new message.

Du-du-lu.

Half standing for easier access, he retrieved his phone from his pocket. It was Eunhyuk. Opening the message, he read it aloud to himself:

“What are you doing today, Hyung? I hear Kyuhyun is free......”

Surprised at the question, Sungmin just stared at the text, re-reading it a couple of times. What is he suggesting? His mulling was disturbed by Kyuhyun who came out of the bathroom, washed, clothes changed and hair freshly brushed. Seeing Sungmin - and the food - he smiled before saying.

“Eunhyuk just text me telling me you were free. How weird is that?” eliciting a little awkward laugh from Sungmin.

“That is weird” he replied, grimacing inside.

Then they both proceeded to eat the food Sungmin had made for them. When finished, Kyuhyun said his pleasantries and was
about to ask what Sungmin wanted to do today when there was a knock at the door.

KNOCK KNOCK

Whoever it was tried the handle after no one answered straight away. Sungmin and Kyuhyun exchanges looks, unconsciously arguing over who should answer the door. Know Kyuhyun wouldn't do it, Sungmin let out a huff then made his way to the door.

He should have expected who it would be really since he was the main one who came to visit. Opening the door, he relieved Siwon, stood, as was expected of him, in a model-like pose. When their eyes connected, he saluted to him and gave him a one-sided smile before saying: “Good morning to you my Sungmin Hyung”. Tilting his head slightly and noticing Kyuhyun, still sat at the table staring absent mindedly out of the window, he promptly said: “and the same to you my Kyuhyun shii.”

“Good morning” Sungmin said with a smile. All Kyuhyun did was grunt a reply. His rudeness didn't dampen Siwon's mood since he was so used to it, he just proceeded to walk in. Sungmin was just about to fully shut the door when he heard a panting shout coming from down the hallway.

“...wa-it!”

Sungmin opened the door fully and poked his head around the frame, only to have to move it back quickly to make way for Shindong who came hurtling through the door.

“Whoah Shindong, careful.” Sungmin said in shock.

Still panting, Shindong gave an apology.

“Ah, he came with me” announced Siwon.

“Oh! Why didn't you come up with Siwon?” Enquired Sungmin.

“He insisted on going ahead, couldn't wait for me to park the car. Said he couldn't wait to see the two of you.....”

“Its true, its true.” Siwon announced, pulling Sungmin into a constricting hug, “don't think ill of me, my reasoning's were totally in
vain, but I truly couldn't wait.”. This was followed by huffs and wimpers.

Too much love to give.....

Sick of the mellow drama, and feeling stressed about something else rising in his chest, Kyuhyun made his way over to them and pulled Siwon off him.

“Oh don't be a fool” he said, pushing Siwon away.

Clearly offended, he said: “You think my love is foolish. This deeply offends me”, throwing himself towards Shindong now who, used to him by now, deflected him with his arms. Siwon was like a ball in a pinball machine, being pushed from person to person.

“No one appreciates me,” he mused dramatically, throwing himself down onto the sofa.

When he was finally out of the way, Kyuhyun spoke up: “What brings you both here hyung?”

“We came cause he insisted. Said since we all have a day off, we should do something together. Eunhyuk tried to stop us for some reason though......”

“oh.... well actually, me and Kyu are busy today. We were going to go out.” Sungmin blurted.

“Right, well.... good, I didn't really want to do anything today anyway, it was all that idiots idea. Siwon! Lets go!” Shindong made his way to grab Siwon from the sofa nut, before he could, Siwon propelled himself up, jumping like a madman repeating:

“Take me with you! Take me with you!” pouting his lips in hope it would help. It didn't.

“No Siwon” Shindong refused, grabbing Siwon around the waist and dragging him through the door, causing his pout to increase tenfold, eyes pleading with Sungmin.

“Sorry hyung, bye” Sungmin said apologetically (secretly happy).

When they got to the doorway, Siwon clutched on to the frame, trying to hold on in vain to prevent him from being taken away. Shindong, obviously the stronger of the two, removed his hands and pulled him through the door, s flashing an understanding smile and saying his goodbyes as he went.

What is with people and giving me weird smiles and texts today? Mused Sungmin.

Glad of the silence, Kyuhyun went back to the table to sit down. Looking at Sungmin, he asked, curious of what he had is store for him: “What do you want to do today then? Since you seem so determined to have me to yourself......”. Realising what he said
when Sungmin's eyes widened, Kyuhyun quickly cleared his throat and smiled.

Not really knowing what to say, Sungmin offered: “I don't really have anything planned, I just wanted to do something.”

Still smiling, Kyuhyun said: “well you have until I'm dressed to make your choice, or I'm just going to play Starcraft all day”. With this he walked to his bedroom, a smug smirk plastered to his face.

Kyuhyun returned about ten minutes later, wearing his usual dark blue jeans and hoodie, and sat back down at the kitchen table. “Decided?” He asked, looking to Sungmin who was sat on the sofa.

Feeling slightly nervous, he slowly offered “Well Kyu, I don't really want to do anything in particular, I just thought we could wonder around and do whatever takes our fancy?” finishing with a smile, worried that Kyuhyun would refuse to go with him.

“Seems a bit strange, but okay hyung, if that's what you want to do.”

Surprised, Sungmin let a goofy smile spread on his face. He did wonder why Kyuhyun had made him worry so much when it seemed that he'd be happy to do anything. Maybe he just likes to make people suffer? He shook the thoughts away, just happy he said yes.

“Ready to go now?” Sungmin asked to which he received a nod, initiating him going to get his shoes and coat. When ready they proceeded through the door and out of the building, heading in which ever direction they pleased.

They walked for ages, just wondering through the streets of Seoul, glad of being able to breathe in the fresh air, no matter if it did rouge their cheeks and nose.

“Its cold,” Kyuhyun protested only to have it fall on deaf ears as Sungmin was too engrossed watching the birds flying overhead.

“.... Nevermind.”

Walking some more they reached a park and found a bench to sit down on for a while. Nearby there was a hot drinks stand which Sungmin too upon himself to go over and order something.

“Be back in a minute,” he shouted as he skipped off. Kyuhyun watched him intently, smiling at how cute he looked. Cute?

As he said, he returned a couple of minutes later, a drink in each hand. Passing one over to his companion, he said: “here you go, I heard you complaining earlier so I figured I'd buy you a hot chocolate to warm you up. Extra whipped cream!” he said triumphantly, clearly pleased with himself.

Kyuhyun didn't really like whipped cream, but he would drink it anyway, not having the heart to tell him as he beamed at him widely. “Thank you” he said.

“Why did you want to spend time together today then?” Kyuhyun enquired, still puzzled (or oblivious??).

Thinking for a while, Sungmin offered: “Uh, well, I guess I just wanted to spend some time with you. I know we live together, but I don't feel like I ever see you. Even if its for a short while its......nice.”.He finished with a soft smile.

Not expecting Sungmin to say what he had just said, but happy about it, Kyuhyun returned the smile.

Drinks cupped in both hands, they sat in silence - not an uncomfortable silence; the kind between people who are content just being together - watching people come and go around them. Cutely, Sungmin brought the cardboard cup up to his face and rolled it backwards and forwards on his cheeks, eyes closing to the gentle warmth soothing his face. “Wow. It really is cold today. I guess I was so giddy about coming out that I didn't notice. But now we're sat still, I can really feel it.”

Kyuhyun watched him, taking the opportunity of his eyes being closed to admire his ability to look cute while vigorously rubbing a cup on his face, hoping to transfer the heat from it. A sudden idea rose to his brain and he acted on it before he could even think it through properly in his head. Removing one of his hands from his cup, he extended his arm upwards and moved it to the back of them, laying it gently and confidently (stemming from not really thinking it through) across Sungmin's back, using his shoulder as the resting place for his hands. Not expecting the sudden contact, Sungmin's eyes cracked open, the movement of the cup ceasing. Slowly, as if expecting something horrific to be the source of the pressure on his back, his shoulders tightened and he moved his head slowly to the side.

“Ky-Kyuhyun?” he enquired confused, “wh-what are you doing?”

Determined not to be beaten down and rejected by Sungmin's surprise driven nerves, he replied with: “You looked so cold, I just wanted to keep you warm, just like you did when you got me this drink, right?”

Feeling Sungmin's shoulders unclench - but leaving a bit of lingering unease - Kyuhyun smiled at him and squeezed his shoulder lightly before turning his head and taking a big drink of his hot chocolate, tilting his head back slowly. This really is too sweet for me he thought, not surprised that this is what Sungmin chose. Sungmin was still looking at Kyuhyun, watching every subtle movement in his features. When he lifted the cup up to his mouth, Sungmin's stomach did an involuntary mini-flip,and when he started drinking, it practically exploded. He couldn't help but watch his Adam's apple move as the hot liquid moved down his throat..... Oh Gosh! What am I doing? He screamed at himself. He had to look away or he felt he would go crazy. Lifting the cup back up to his cheek, he watched the people around them in an effort to distract himself. His cheeks had turned a pale crimson, but whether the cause was the hot drink or Kyuhyun was unknown. Kyuhyun, oblivious, just carried on drinking his drink, smiling to himself.

Fell off the hay bales,

I'm over the rainbow.
