HAPPY MONDAY!!
After struggling with a spell of writer's block, I tackled a couple of ficlet prompts on Tumblr - not really long enough to post to ff.net but I thought I'd share them here!
1) "A drabble request for Edith and Matthew and their relationship" (Not M/M, per se, but MATTHEW. So, anyway.)
She was just considering turning in for the night, feeling remarkably unscathed after her announcement, when a soft touch at her elbow stopped her.
“I wanted to catch you for a moment,” Matthew smiled broadly at her. “I know things got a little distracted at dinner, but really, I’m so pleased you went for it. Mary and I think it’s wonderful.”
Edith chuckled. “Do you really? I don’t know what to say. You’ve been more supportive of the whole idea - well, of me - than anyone, and I’m not quite sure what I’ve done to deserve it!” She swirled her drink contemplatively, a little shy of meeting his eyes. “But I do - appreciate it, Matthew. Terribly so.”
“Why wouldn’t I support it?” he exclaimed with a smile. “It’s a wonderful opportunity, and you’ve done damned well to achieve it. You’ve a mind as capable as anyone I know, so why shouldn’t you put it to use? To be honest, I was quite horrified your family weren’t more supportive of you.”
Edith warmed up to his praise, allowing her burgeoning self-confidence to rise to the surface. He was right… She was capable, she was clever, and why shouldn’t they recognise that? She laughed delicately.
“Well, I think you see things a little different from the rest of the family, still - clearly!” she ruefully acknowledged her father’s mulish protests to Matthew’s plans for change, however slowly he seemed to be coming round. Matthew arched an amused eyebrow.
“I am just a country solicitor, don’t forget… and that’s all I will be for many years, yet, never mind that I married your sister.”
“A country solicitor, perhaps, but - definitely part of the family,” Edith smiled. “And I’m - glad of it, Matthew. Truly I am. It’s rather nice to have a brother-in-law to stand in my corner!”
“Me, too,” he agreed softly. “And I must admit, it’s rather nice to have a sister -” He paused, expression darkening for the briefest moment as he thought of the other sister he’d so dearly gained, and then lost so soon. “To… have a sister who’s corner to stand in. I truly wish you the best of luck with it.”
Edith nodded, slowly, and put her glass down to touch his arm in thanks.
“That’s very kind of you - and of Mary, too - she wouldn’t have supported me a few years ago. Not over anything.”
“Well, we’ve all changed since then I think.”
“I suppose so. But - if you’ll excuse me, I’m quite worn out from the trip - thank you, Matthew. For all of it.”
He nodded. “You’re quite welcome, Edith. Goodnight.”

2) "M/M getting 'caught at it' by one of the staff.. AWKS!" - (Definitely M-rated!)
The drawing room was dark, and still, long since abandoned for the evening.
Except…
“Oh God, oh God, Mary…” His fingers dug into her hips, desperately supporting her against the back of the settee as her legs locked around his waist, their gasping breaths breaking the silence.
“Don’t you dare stop now!” she panted, fingers tightening in a fierce grip in his hair, revelling in the sensation of their bodies slamming repeatedly together, awkward though the position was.
“But - darling, I can’t - hold you…” He groaned plaintively against her warm neck, clinging together. “Turn around…”
She nodded, and slowly uncurled her legs as he lowered her. They kissed, with desperate intensity, lips and tongues slipping together for a snatched moment before she turned. His hands were warm on her hips, then on her skin as they slipped up under her dress. His hands, and his hot breath on the back of her neck, were all she could feel… and then he eased into her, their hushed moans mingling in fulfilment, as they found their rhythm again.
Her hands braced on the back of the sofa, hips arching back to meet him again and again, her head flung back in pleasure as his lips tasted her neck and his hands… oh, his hands, touched her in the most intimate of caresses… Her body began to quake, and she felt his shudder behind her and within her, and there was nothing else she could think of and…
They were too engrossed in their senseless pleasure to notice the door open.
“Good God in heaven!” Carson spluttered loudly as the scene before him clicked into place.
“God!” Matthew yelped, stiffening as he locked eyes with the butler, and couldn’t look away. His arm curled tightly around Mary’s waist, as if it could shield their modesty, but…
“Carson!” Mary swallowed, her knuckles white on the settee. Matthew could feel her shaking, though it was barely detectable in her voice. “We were - under the impression everyone had retired for the night, and -“
“For pity’s sake,” Matthew breathed against her neck, “Don’t move…”
“Forgive me, my Lady, I was… making my usual rounds before turning in. I do beg your pardon,” Carson recited stoically, eyes fixed on the carpet somewhere in front of his feet, thankful for the dimmed light that hid his blush.
Matthew swallowed uncomfortably. “Please, Carson… I think… I can fairly say that the drawing room is alright for this evening. You can carry on, and I’m so… dreadfully sorry…”
“Not at all, Mr Crawley,” the butler muttered, still refusing to look at either of them. He couldn’t. “I’ll just be on my way, then…”
“Thank you, Carson!” Mary said with a false brightness.”Goodnight, then!”
They only breathed again once the door had closed behind him, leaving them once more in solitude and darkness.
“God, I’m sorry…” Matthew chuckled weakly against his wife’s shoulder. She laughed helplessly with him, becoming a sharp gasp as he shifted and she realised they were still… together.
“Don’t be,” she whispered, smiling. One could be embarassed about these things, but it could hardly be changed now… and when Matthew was… doing that… “Poor Carson. Still, he’s finishing his job, so, darling -“
“Well… if you insist,” he murmured, nipping at her ear with his teeth. Oh, he’d be embarassed alright, and more so when he remembered it in the morning, but… for now… he could drive it out with far more pleasurable thoughts.
:P
