Of Fishes and Cats

Where can you find lots of Fishes and the most beloved Cat? Right in Tokyo, Japan of course!

We started our second day with a visit to Tsukiji Market (筑地市场) after a hearty breakfast at our hotel. Hubby said he never ate so many croissants for breakfast in his life, they were simply tasty and irresistible that he downed quite a number of them.

A train station away from our hotel is the Tsukiji Central Wholesale Market, a large wholesale market for fish, fruit and vegetables in central Tokyo. Tsukiji Market is one of the world's largest fish markets, handling over 2,000 tons of marine products per day. It’s a pity that we couldn’t witness the exciting tuna auctions for one it was held early in the morning around 5am and also since mid 2005 it was closed to all tourists because of interference of curious visitors touching tuna, hindering and causing distraction to the staff at work.

While there, we were overwhelmed by the sight of the many kinds of fresh fish, shellfish and other seafood, and oh my goodness the tuna were as big as Nicole! Every corner we turned, there would be scooters, trucks, sellers and buyers scurrying around busy with their chores, it was fun nevertheless to watch them at work. Of course a visit to Tsukiji Market is best combined with a sushi breakfast at one of the numerous eateries which are located in the market but sad to say none of us did that as we are not sushi lovers.

Fresh seafood, any fresher you would have to catch it yourself

Next we went to visit the most well known cat in the world - HELLO KITTY at Sanrio Puroland (三丽鸥彩虹乐园). The next couple of hours at the theme park were spent taking photos with the various Sanrio characters, watching show, making some handicraft and of course shopping!

We ended the day with a ride on a huge Ferris-wheel at Odaiba, also a short trip away from our hotel. The Yurikamome Elevated Train departs from the station next to where we stayed so its very convenient. It was drizzling that evening so we didn’t take any pictures. In fact we didn’t toured the place as we were all so tired from the day’s outing, we went there primarily to honour our promise to Nicole to take the Ferris-wheel the day before at Tokyo Tower. Hopefully we would be able to tour the place next time (if we ever come back this way again), as there are a lot more to do and see on this little reclaimed ‘island’.

Initially we planned to spend 1/5 of the day at the Tsukiji Market, 2/5 day at Sanrio Puroland and the remaining at Odaiba but it turned out that we spent 3/7 day each at the first two spots and 1/7 at Odaiba instead. But what the heck we were on holiday, itinerary is only meant as a guide, if we enjoyed certain places more we just stayed longer…and that’s the beauty of a F&E holiday : )
