Garfield minus Garfield. Because when you actually think about it, that's all it was ever about.

garfield without garfield, comedy, webcomics, comics

Just thought of you - I put in an application to boots the chemist, for temporary christmas staff, only to receive an inordinately quick response telling me that, and I quote:

'Dear Josephine

Thank you for applying for the position Christmas Store Assistant - Southampton Above Bar.

Your application and questionnaire results for this position have been carefully assessed and I regret to inform you that you have been unsuccessful on this occasion. However, I would like to thank you for your application, and for the interest you have shown in Boots.

We wish you every success in the future.

Kind Regards,
Boots Recruitment Team'

Great, at this rate I'm going to bloody sign on until I get a real job!

Does anyone actually get a job at Boots because I've been rejected twice by them as well (and pretty immediately after application) yet they're always advertising...

Something else that I found kind of funny: I was talking to a housemate about the whole job thing and he told me that when he went to the job centre to find part time work in retail they actually told him he wouldn't get any because he was 'overqualified' and then asked him if retail was 'really the career he wanted'.

This guy is a medic student.

Unsurprisingly, he had no idea how to explain that he just wanted a part time job not a career in men's luxury retail.

The whole job-while-studying thing is really kind of ridiculous.

I've got two days a week in the teaching lab now with very generous pay. So that's me sorted until Christmas at least.

You know... I think these retail stores want people who aren't going to 'cause them problems'. The more I see the more I realise they don't want someone who can think, they just want someone to do, and no matter what you tell them they will never believe that you can blindly follow instruction. No matter what I say I am probably incapable of the 'blindly' part.

None of my friends from the Univ. Southampton had retail jobs, but all of our neighbours who were 'studying' at Solent Univ. did. I'm not sure why this is, but most of those finished their degrees and then took a full time position in whichever store they were working in.

The only jobs I've ever had while studying have been bar work and waitressing... that's the kind of job where being able to add up and think on your feet is really necessary!
