So. Trying to catch up on my political watching/reading and the first stop was yesterday's Question Time. Now I know, I know, it isn't really any good for actual politics, but it is a good source for references, a bit like a poor man's political New Scientist in televisual form. Thank goodness because I thought it was just me being mean. The TV presenters and media people always make it sound like everyone is really hyped up about it rather than just taking advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity. What's more, it's as though we're all so depressed by the recession that we actually believe in the promise of a regenerated London. I don't know. What happened to good old fashioned cynicism? We are British, after all.

I don't think anyone but the policy-makers believe that and even they are making the best of a situation they perhaps didn't intend to happen at all. PR people are required to act like they're hyped. I think most people are just aware that we can't do anything about it, so we might as well pretend we're enjoying it?
