I don't think I'd be willing to get a thermometer for my house - some things I just don't want to know. Last night it was -5 outside, and there doesn't appear to be any insulation, so I was profligate and left the heater on all night on its lowest setting.
ah, a thermometer only gives a more precise reading of what you already know.
we have a dehumidifier and a woodburner upstairs, and a heat pump downstairs where the bedrooms are. This time of year we run the heatpump on the timer and thermostat; we used to have an oil column heater in each bedroom (on a timer as well) but this option costs less.
with two asthmatics in the house, and the other two prone to 'temporary asthma' when we get respiratory infections, that's just something we have to budget for. we eat a lot let fancy in winter...
