徒宅忘妻(したくぼうさい) - Shitakubousai - Getting caught up in small tasks that you forget something important.
In the country of Ro, there lived a man who was terribly forgetful. On the day he was to move he packed all of his belongings. Looking around he made sure he didn’t forget anything. So doing, he left. Leaving his wife standing there along in the empty house. Forget something?
徒is 移る[to switch, transfer], [宅=house, 忘=to forget,妻=wife] meaning to forget one’s wife when moving to a new house. Or put another way, to become wrapped up in small things and forget important things.
The forgetful person here is truly forgetful, but the wife must have very little presence in his life. Or perhaps she has too much presence and he has gotten into the habit of ignoring her, and so forgot her. If I continue to come up with strange explanations you may tell me that I'm bringing my own personal issues to bear. This is the story of a forgetful man. The wife is also important.
I chose this expression because of the fact that I have forgotten many things recently. I had been planning to research travel to a friends wedding when suddenly a million little things came up, and that research went out the window. So this is a reminder to me to not forget about the important things, which includes communicating with friends.
