Freshmen!

School started yesterday, and with it an plethora of new freshmen. Lost. Repeatedly opening maps and trying not to look like dorks. If they're asking me for directions, if I even see them on my end of campus, they're so lost they'd be dead if they were out on the Serengeti. Heck, our lab is so far from the rest of campus we're practically next ( Read more... )

At UC the art and architecture building is frikkin' crazy in terms of layout. There was one time i was there and i saw a poor bewildered high school senior and his parents staring at one of the wall maps in the place, trying desperately to decipher its non-Euclidean geometry. I almost stopped to help them...until I realized that there simply wasn't a way to describe how to get to wherever they wanted to go by any reasonable means, and that I would simply have to take them there.

So I left them. I figured that simply experiencing the insanity that was the DAAP building would drive away any normal person. And if that didn't dissuade them from coming to DAAP, they must have been insane to being with.

I tried to explain DAAP to Joseph when we drove past it last weekend, but the best I could come up with was "evil design building." Naturally, there was some confusion as to whether this meant it was an evilly designed building, or a building where they taught evil design, but I assured him it was both.

I'm imagining some kind of prank involving lost freshman and cockroaches, but I can't come up with the details.

Tell Jackie to hurry up and have that baby so I can come play with it! (Seriously, I hope she's doing ok. I'm told the last weeks of pregnancy are pretty grueling.)
