I am looking forward to ze movie (M & I are seeing it Sunday night), and your hearty recommendation is even more encouraging!
Perhaps their inability to make a trailer is like some novelists inability to write short stories. They are so skilled at making good movies that they simply entirely lack the ability to sell said movies in a short burst. They must have to fight to keep from going "and then this happens, but that's not as cool as when this happens, or this...oh, and this!"
Whenever I hear about Pixar's new movies, I simply put the release date on the calendar. I view their trailers as akin to an idea I've never gotten around to executing--go to a movie theater after months of media black-out, ask the ticket window for a ticket to any movie, but no title, then go in, sit down, and watch. Sure, it could be a piece of crap, but it'd be a piece of crap you'd have no idea of or expectations for.
What did the trailer say about UP? "It's a movie about an old guy, his house, and an assload of balloons." Very little information, but okay, I'll watch it. I think Toy Story was the last movie they actually gave much info about in the trailers.
You so utterly and completely forgot to warn me how unbelievably sad the beginning of the movie is! Holy crap! It was a great movie...but man, the beginning takes your heart and runs it through a blender.
I didn't forget, but I didn't want to ruin anything. I even wrote and then deleted, "Bring a box of tissues for the first ten minutes." My heart dropped at the end of that sequence, my eyes were even a little teary--then Jackie turns to me, apparently unfazed, and asks what's wrong.
