I started a boardgaming blog a few months back, and am trying to stay on a regular writing schedule for it. Currently I'm planning on doing one "main" (discussing concepts in games and gaming and the like) update every Monday or Tuesday, and plan to throw in smaller updates (play sessions, other weird stuff) as they strike me ( Read more... )

Looking back at my original post, I'm thinking I should have gone with a simpler, cost-per-person comparison for entertainment options overall--making the argument that purchasing a boardgame was comparable was what I was originally going for, but apparently didn't survive my editing. I was going to post several options for entertainment, but was attempting to keep the post short(er). Meh, what can you do ( ... )

Geeze, forgot to post two things I pulled up specifically for the post I just made and your previous post, regarding the visual/auditory interest of video games. Boardgames have done some crossing-over. While some of these have been really, really bad, and of course don't match up with the level of a video game, here are two contemporary examples ( ... )

Both of those games look really interesting, and I've long pondered the crossover potential between electronic devices and PnP RPGs myself. It's good to see that there is some experimentation on the subject going on, at least in the case of boardgames. Frankly, for me, I was severely disappointed that the promised "D&D Kitchen Table" never materialized for 4E, but perhaps something similar will appear for 5E.
