Fighting games of all kinds have made a comeback, but you have to admit that there was a lull after Sega dropped support for the Dreamcast.

KOF never went away. Maybe in the US, but the rest of the world never forgot it.

I'm sure they would have sold more if anyone bothered letting anyone know the game exists.

And I'm sure Parappa 3 or Lammy 2 would have sold much better than, I still don't know what this game's supposed to be. Not to say that's what they should have done, but... a marching band? Really? Why not just make a game about Chess Club while you're at it. I think this is what happens when the "Wii is for casuals" mantra gets repeated so much that all the game studios start to believe it.

It is kind of a bummer 'cause I like Rock Band and all, but I like the whole "crazy" genre of rhythm games too, but they're dying out and this game probably didn't help the cause at all. What's we have before this? EBA, right? That was back in 07, oy.

I don't think it's necessarily "crazy" rhythm games that are going the way of the dinosaur, but story-driven ones. Once you've seen the story, there's not much incentive to go back to the game. With Guitar Hero and its derivatives, the focus is put squarely on the licensed music and mastery of each song. When the songs get boring, a sequel or expansion pack offers an instant refresh. It's unoriginal, but it sells.

That and many people just believe the generic Bemani style is the "best" way to do things.

Personally I vastly prefer character driven non-bemani rythm games. Especially Bust A Groove. Oh how I miss it. don't even get me started I could write an entire design document on how to turn BAG into the deepest competitive rythm game ever without changing the gameplay almost at all. Ah well, at least BAG lives on in the form of Korean MMOs Audition and High Street 5.

Actually I bought Major Minor's Majestic March and...yeah I can understand why it didn't sell...though even then that's a super low number ( ... )
