A few days ago, a friend of mine was accosted by some douchebag who claimed he was worthless, because he contributed nothing to society. I was a little hurt that the friend speculated that I was the douchebag in question, but utterly incensed by the idiotic notion that a man's worth is directly proportional to his contributions to society. By the way, consider screening all the comments to your LiveJournal from now on. I get a lot of morons (mostly trolls) who still post invective on my YouTube videos, despite the fact that I haven't made any for nearly a year. Comment screening really helps discourage them, although a few still hit their heads against the brick wall anyway.
Mental note: close comments on all my YouTube videos. That shit's as dead as a doornail, and I have neither the resources nor the inclination to make more of them.

Of course, that's nothing compared to all the trolls that inhabit the MLive sports forums...
But I do agree with your post. I still remember when netizens were generally kind to each other but now it's all about using them or screwing them over before someone does the same to them. I suppose the same is true in the mundane world now as well.
But I'm doing to do what I need and like to do. If others don't like that *shrugs*.
