The train began to move. Harry saw the boys' mother waving and their sister, half laughing, half crying, running to keep up with the train until it gathered too much speed; then she fell back and waved.
Finally I could finish this illustration.
This image took much longer than any of the other drawings, as I said before, mostly because of technique and the difficult dicissions about how it would look. From the start I could clearly see what it should look like but to see it in my mind and to draw it on paper are two very different things. I doubted the colour of the seats, or what clothes they should wear, the size of the window, the cage of the owl, what should Ron's food look like? I took my time because this is one of my favourite moments of all the six books. For me, this is where the adventure really starts. Up until now Harry hasn't left the muggle world, but now he's on the train and I stay with Ginny to wave goodbye and cry a little.
Harry is only one year younger than me, so I mostly used my memories for reference to capture that time. The exception is the station's wall, that one is actually from a photo showing the wall Harry and Ron had to cross.
