I am puzzled today, how do you define a friend these days?? Do you have to have to have face to face contact with them to be their friend? Or in the world of FB and Twitter and all that jazz is keeping up on the internet enough? I know I have people who I have met maybe once or twice in person but who touched my spirit so much and I now have a ( Read more... )

Well I don't think Twitter adds a great deal.

In terms of friendship, that's really up to the individual, as to whether they can build up a friendship without meeting in person. I don't have a problem with that, but a close internet friend will never be the same as a real friend.

It really depends on the level and depth that you interact with them. I feel that online chats, back and forth on blog posts (LJ, FB, etc.) can create a connection that is just as good and close as in physical contact. And besides, consider that one isn't going to be around friends all the time (unless they live with you and even then, not all the time). So contact in any form is just as valid. I have people I consider really good friends that I have never actually met. Possibly the most notable example is Akeyla. I've been friends with her for several years (8-9?) and we send each other cards and sometimes letters (though not for a while). She was also the reason I went to DragonCon for the first time as I was acting as her agent for her artwork that she sent there for the show. I in many ways have better contact and knowledge of her than I do many of my own actual family. Yet, I have never met her ( ... )

umm somehow I felt like that was a subtle...or maybe not so subtle kick in the ass for not posting so much over the last year. Oh great snuggler of spoons I beg forgiveness. ( I found that picture the other day on here LOL)
I find though as usual with you I agree with most of what you "say" and it gives me much to ponder.

Thank you

No, it was just an indication in general. Like we just saw the first post in a couple of years from a friend in England :P And I haven't heard from another English friend since early this year. Course, communications is always a two way street. And I haven't been making as much effort as I should (especially as much as I complain about not hearing from someone) to communicate with some people (especially family!). So yeah... consider it a kick to myself as well :P And there is no spoon :P
