1. being obtuse; well. obtuse means “stupid” amongst other things. however, a lot of people confuse this word for abstruse which means “difficult” (me included). I do mean abstruse, but I keep it there because it’s kind of apt to put “being stupid” when I mean “being difficult”. it like to be mysterious, & sarcastic, & take things literally to piss people off. that’s what I mean by it. it’s also a quote from The Shawshank Redemption.
2. cheese; I just fucking love cheese. plain & simple.
3. Faithless; one of my favourite musical acts. I once won tickets to an album preview they did at a tiny club in King’s Cross that I went to with my friend & the two main artists from the act (Maxi Jazz & Sister Bliss) walked through the crowd & stood on stage talking to us before playing their entire new album for us. it was a free bar, too. Faithless are just amazing, they’re a classic dance act & they’ve done some of the best club tunes ever.
4. Fifth Gear; Fifth Gear is a car programme on Five in England. it’s fantastic. there’s a rival programme on the BBC, Top Gear, where they do lots of challenges, but although they do those kinds of things on Fifth Gear, it concentrates a lot more on the cars. plus, whilst Jeremy Clarkson can be funny & I do like the presenters on Top Gear, the other programme’s presenters seem to mesh better & they definitely know their stuff. plus they have a girl on there, Vicky Butler-Henderson, & we all know I’m big into Girl Powaaah!
5. not arithmetic; I hate math, I always have, it was the bane of my life at school & I just cannot get my head around it. simple math, fine, but algebra? trig? equations? fuck that shit. thank God we have a programme on the computers at university that do all our psychological calculations for us, too, otherwise I’d fail hardcore!
6. Sylvia Plath; I love The Bell Jar & since reading that book I’ve always thought that Plath lead such a sad, tragic life. she was talented, but she was plagued by depression & it eventually ended her life. she was gone too soon, as with so many gifted, but troubled, artists. that whole fate strikes a chord with me.
7. true-to-life; this relates to genres of films or books. I couldn’t think of anything else to call it, someone suggested it could be called “beat” but I think that’s mostly to do with drugs (authors such as Hunter S Thompson & William S Burroughs). I like books & movies that are gritty & could actually happen, stories that are slightly auto-biographical or that are based on real peoples’ lives but cleverly disguised. I guess that’s why I like psychology so much, you can really get into peoples’ heads.
