i don't know what to do. i need a new car rather soon, and i have it down almost exclusively to either the brand new '09 Volkswagen Jetta TDI (diesel) or a new-ish Subaru Impreza WRX

think of it this way:
The tore-ass is front wheel right? Out of all the years you've been driving it, how many times have you needed more than that? You also make a lot of arguments for the lower cost of the VW vs basically 1 argument for the Subaru and its all-wheel drive.

Also, if the years that it takes the VW to make up for the cost of being new, the Subaru may crap out by then. And if it doesn't, the VW being new will last that much more longer.

My car is front wheel drive and it handles great in the snow. Of course, a 4 wheel drive would handle better... but I wouldnt base my decision off of that alone.

but both cars are known for lasting forever, and the wrx is just so damn cool

well they didn't test the tdi, but the gti instead, and they scored almost identically lol. i figure if i go with the vw, i can just have two sets of wheels, some skinnier ones foe fuel economy in the summer, and big fat tready ones for the winter and i'll be ok.
