I've never done an international move, but at least for local moves I've found that really the best way to go is with a professional moving company. You can usually get a bunch of boxes for free on Craigslist, and by having the movers transport it they'll aggregate your boxes along with a bunch of other boxes which helps to minimize environmental impact. (Having UPS or some other ground freight company ship it would work to that end as well, although it'd cost a lot more
