Hyukjae made himself laugh along with Donghae, not even sure what the punch line of the other's joke was to supposed to be. He watched as the younger dancer rubbed at his eyes and assumed he had laughed so hard he had made himself cry.
"Oh gosh!" Donghae gasped between chuckles as he calmed down some. "I'm glad you thought it funny! That used to be the only joke that could get Kibum to laugh. It's good to know I haven't lost my touch!"
He nodded and grinned back, but Hyukjae couldn't help the heavy feeling in his chest. He's always wondered if he was simply a replacement for Kibum; he and Donghae were so close, but when he disappeared it was suddenly all about EunHae. Was any of the attention Donghae showered him with sincere? Or was Eunhyuk just a pain reliever?
Donghae's phone suddenly started blaring Kibum's part from U and Hyukjae couldn't help but to scoff quietly. Luckily Donghae didn't notice and fished his cell out of his back pocket. "Kibummie!" he answered excitedly.
Donghae began prattling on to Kibum about their day's schedule and Hyukjae couldn't take it anymore. "Yah, Donghae." The other boy looked up, wearing that stupid soft smile he always gets when Kibum is on his mind. Hyukjae's eyes burned for a moment, but he blinked hard and cleared his throat, "I'm going to stay with Hyung until Sukira." Donghae just nodded and grinned, waving bye as he replied cutely to whatever Kibum had said.
Once he was out of the living room, Hyukjae realized he never said who he was going to be with, mainly because he had no clue. Jungsu would be busy going over his script this close to time for their broadcast, and Heechul just really wasn't high his list for times like these. . .
"Oh, Hyuk!"
Hyukjae looked up from where he had taken to staring at the floor to see Sungmin grinning at him from the end of the hallway, walking towards him. "Hyung!" He sighed loudly in relief, meeting Sungmin in front of the doorway for a hug, secretly hoping Donghae would see and feel jealous.
"Why are you just standing around in the hallway? Everything alright?" Sungmin's voice was low and soft and Hyukjae suddenly wanted to cry at how much the smaller boy really cared.
He opened his mouth to reply that yes, of course everything was alright, when a ridiculously loud laugh from Donghae cut him off. He found it hard to say anything after that, but Sungmin picked up on the situation almost immediately.
"Oh--oh, Hyukjae," he cooed understandingly. "It's okay," Sungmin promised. Hyukjae felt the older boy hug him and wondered when his eyes had closed. He wondered though, as he could hear Donghae babbling on in the background and Sungmin's consoling whispers in his ear, if it really would be okay.
This awful. I realize that. But there was this kpop secret, and I was just like, you know, what if? So yeah.
