So, I told my pastor that I'm going to do it...lead the prayer ministry. I've finally written a document of guidelines and expectations, including a mission/vision statement. It was actually sorta hard to get the priesthood of all believers part in there. I'm still working on the wording so that people get my meaning. But overall, I'm pretty ( Read more... )

that is precious and amazing. I love them too, and I miss them!

And that's awesome about the prayer ministry! It's really taken off at Lifelink. We're going through the LTMLJ class for the second time, and still very few people attend. Like 3. Everyone at Lifelink seems to think it's not "natural" to take a class on prayer, since the Holy Spirit is supposed to teach you. They sorta feel threatened by the idea of a prayer "model." It's kind of frustrating, but we're praying for each other after the services at least. It's just....more often than not, it's not very productive prayer because no one is on the same page, no one who's up there has received training, and no one sees a problem with it. Except when you go up there for prayer and someone who prays for you just goes off the deep end speaking in tongues and trying to speak prophetic words about your "destiny" but you really just went up there b/c you had a headache or colon cancer or something like that. *Sigh* it's getting better though...slowly but surely.

Hello dear friend. I love hearing about the boys! They are adorable and it is fun to hear what they are doing. I totally agree with your sisters, and am so glad you said yes. I remember the last time you were here and we talked a bit about prayer and I was so encouraged by your sense of how God uses us in prayer, and how we can be open to Him to lead us in praying for others. I think you will be an excellent leader and I have never found you to be inarticulate. Keep us posted on how things are going for you. Love ya, Laura

Just an FYI, the elders don't "vote" on such things. Jim bringing the info to the eldership is more just so we have an idea of what's going on. We try to take a nose-in, but hands-off approach to the ministries of the church in order to allow for the spirit to lead people as he sees fit. As long as the vision you've been given for the ministry fits into the overall mission/vision of the church as well as the big-C Church, you don't have anything to be concerned about from the eldership.

Thanks, Andrew. I guess I knew that it wasn't exactly a vote. But your description of things is helpful.

Monica, I'm so glad to hear this is happening! I feel relieved. I'm wondering what you meant in your last post by saying you're not the RIGHT person for this job?

You are very kind to the mice after all the trouble they gave you. And those boys sound very very cute.

I was just referring to all of my weaknesses. If there was someone who had the passion that I have for this who was also organized and even a little type A, that would be the RIGHT person. I'm not remotely type A. Oh well.

Well, us Type A's can often organize the Holy Spirit out of a lot of things, so don't you worry that your personality won't work out with organizing prayer ministry. The great thing about the Holy Spirit is that He'll kick your butt into gear better than any Type A personality. :)
