I was speaking to a girl about the war whilst we were waiting in a queue. We were both not expecting to be seen for half an hour so in the good ol' British way, we started bantering.

We got to the topic of languages, and I remarked how easy it is to learn German, as a lot of our concepts are the same. She then came out with the gem "well we do practically speak it, seeing as we were taken over by them in world war two!

EH? I thought my ears were deceiving me! She didn't believe me when I told her the German army never touched the soil during the war.

EDIT: For the record, she was from Newcastle - North East England and NOWHERE near Guernsey.
