Triangles =/= squares.

Note: Bolding is of my own, just to highlight the math in it so it didn't get too confusing.

In my high school, advanced math is a college-bound, senior-only class. With this, you'd expect the class to be at least semi-intelligent, right? Well... I'm beginning to doubt.

The best and most mock-worthy incident happened towards the beginning of the class. We were going over the Pythagorean theorem as a 'just in case you don't remember', and the brilliance of the class was shown here.

Teacher: Now, you use the formula a2+b2=c2. Get the sum of a2 and b2, then take the square root of that and c2 to get what c equals.
Girl 1: Why?
Teacher: Uhm, why what?
Girl 2: Why do we have to square a triangle?
Girl 1: Yeah. It's a TRIANGLE, not a SQUARE. Shouldn't we like, triangle it? That'd be like a with the up 3, right?
Teacher: *silence*

...wot?
