The modern changes made to All Hallow's Eve are nothing short of extraordinary; what was once a time to celebrate the harvest has now become a holiday of sweets. Something has surely been lost in the transition, but in any case, I'm very eager to observe this updated version. And I have Mr. Dresden's program to prepare for as well.I suppose ( Read more... )

The holiday at the end of the month that everyone is talking about; it involves "Trick or Treating", a sort of game in which children dress in costume and request candy.

you're already dressed up like you're about to see 'the importance of being earnest' followed by a backstage invitation

don't see how that's not a costume to begin with

This? It's my normal attire. I suppose it would seem like a costume to those from a different time period or world.

My understanding is that the old customs were more tied to the dead than to the harvest.

Perhaps my Europe is different from yours. But why else would ghost stories and fortune-telling by the spirits be so popular on Hallowe'en night? I don't believe in ghosts, but the charlatans say that on All Hallow's, the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is thinnest, and spirits can pass through to pay calls.

You'd look nothing like me. Mop indeed!

Von wie feierten Sie diesen Feiertag, dem Sie kommen?

[How did you celebrate this holiday where you come from?]

Halloween .... how?

O-oh! Yes, well...

Halloween is normally celebrated in my world through harvest parties. Gatherings in which a generous amount of food is supplied, games are played, and stories are exchanged. It has never been anything as fancy as how it is now with this "Trick or Treating".
