A few years back, my FFXI account got hacked via a 0-day exploit in Flash and IE. I am not a big fan of The Microsoft Way, but IE6 was familiar and did what it does about as well as its various competitors. But IE and Adobe left the window open, so to speak, so I adopted Firefox with the NoScript and AdBlock extensions.

There are a wealth of quotations databases on the intarwub that attribute the quote, "An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest", to Benjamin Franklin. None that I've found in my cursory investigation provide a source to verify the attribution though. How do I know they're not all propagating misinformation from the same erroneous -

It irks me to no end that my Samsung t229 defaults to predictive (T9) mode every time I start a text message.
Maybe a whole bottle of Gumdale shiraz was a little much in one evening.
There was a German lady in front of me on line to get through security screening at IAD. Her English was flawless. I wish my German was as good as her English. -

I must just not be hitting the magic combination of Google search terms, but I can't seem to find any working examples of a web page design with a non-scrolling top div (think of it as a headline and menu bar area), and a vertically-scrolling bottom div. I have a number of web application projects ahead of me. My first project, the getting-my-feet-wet one last year, was very efficient, but also a mess of entangled HTML, JavaScript and PHP. I see Microsoft has joined Adobe in obfuscating their software download process with an intermediate "download manager" - in Publisher 2007's case, a Digital River widget. -

Maybe I knew this 10+ years ago, but I've never had to fuss with the difference between MS Jet and MySQL before. The MS Jet database engine's Boolean data type doesn't seem to distinguish between Null and zero. I can jump through flaming hoops backward to make sure I'm writing a Null to the database, but when I read it back, it comes back as zero ( Read more... )
