Help!

Somehow in the 7.5 years i have been raising girls (plus my 9-year-old son, but he rarely wears dresses!) it has never been necessary for me to buy them slips. Until now. I bought each girl a new dress for Easter, brought them home, and discovered that THEY ARE (nearly) COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT!! Eeek! Half-slips will probably do, because the top ( Read more... )

Since you got them from Wal-Mart, you can take them back after they've been washed. If you have the receipt, I'd just take it to CS & tell them that you didn't realize they were SO SEE THROUGH & since the store doesn't carry slips, you need to start over. This would especially be affective if you found something you could exchange them for in store, or see if they wouldn't mind giving you your money back on a giftcard. My family works for Wal-Mart & people have returned a lot less a lot more often.

Just a thought. :)

Also, try JC Penneys maybe for slips?

Thank you! It's good to know that returning might still be an option. Now i have to see if i still have the receipt...

There is a JC Penney's in town; i'll check there even if i don't end up needing one, because chances are i'll have this problem again in the future!

If you can't return them, make slips out of old pillowcases for them! You'll need 2 for each kid.

Just cut off the folded up part at the bottom, one of the side seams. Sew together the 2 cases so you have essentially one big tube.

Flip over the raw edge about 1 1/2 inches. Leave a spot of about 2 inches wide. Thread elastic in ! presto! :-D

Excellent! My first instinct is to avoid attempting to sew anything they're going to wear in public (i'm a terrible seamstress...) but this sounds simple enough i might be able to pull it off :) Thank you for the backup plan!

I couldn't believe there was nothing available locally when i finally noticed the issue. I remember my mom insisting i wear slips under things i didn't think were sheer at all! I guess we live in different times.

the vermont country catalog http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/Shop definitely has women's slips in several different styles.

http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/3290-AA.shtml is a place where you can order dyable clothing...and there is a section of sleeveless short dresses that would definitely be suitable for a child's slip. there's also a nice selection of modestly styled women's dresses (and in plus sizes too).

When I was a kid, my mom would layer elastic waist tiered skirts under all my dresses.

Like this kind. (this is Old Navy tho)
