last night you were a little cat
black, grey, and stalking on the rooftop for a while
last night you tried endlessly to make the universe smile
you tried until the morning to make numbers come to life
if seconds were like rabbits in a hat
to make children turn their heads, and wonder if its true
that our galaxy resounds at a B flat
and then later you cry out: "that's not a cat!"
