"I wish more people would realize that to follow their dreams is the only way to live a life worth living. Nobody on their deathbed wonders if they've done enough work and should have had less fun and playtime. The magical ingredient in music is the word "play," so I think on my deathbed I will still wonder if I could just go and jam with a couple of musicians and just carry on playing. " - Hans Zimmer, Reddit IAmA [x]
Q: I have several friends who are composers in Los Angeles. Though they respect you as a businessman, I have a difficult time defending your music to them from a compositional standpoint. What would you to say to composers who criticize your compositions for being too simple? A: I've spent my life trying to make things simpler. Because I find ultimately that complicated doesn't reach the heart. - Hans Zimmer [x]
"One day we must ask the question, 'Why are there forty million poor people in America?' And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I’m simply saying that more and more, we’ve got to begin to ask questions about the whole society. We are called upon to help the discouraged beggars in life’s market place. But one day we must come to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. It means that questions must be raised. You see, my friends, when you deal with this, you begin to ask the question, 'Who owns the oil?' You begin to ask the question, 'Who owns the iron ore?' You begin to ask the question, 'Why is it that people have to pay water bills in a world that is two thirds water?' These are questions that must be asked." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Wherever you are going, take me with you. I do not care if I am the one that lags behind, I do not care if I am the one with the broken wings, I do not care if my bones are not hollow like yours, but filled with marrow and sadness and weights you do not carry. Wherever you are going, take me with you, for here, has lost the taste for me." - 3 Geese Flying Away Into Sunset, by Tyler Knott [x]
